Pray for Yourself First
If you have ever been on an aeroplane you will have heard the speech by the Flight Attendant - “If you are traveling with children, or are seated next to someone who needs assistance, place the mask on yourself first, then offer assistance.” It is the same with prayer, before you pray for others, pray for yourself first! If you are not sure of your own salvation go to our Good News Page, pray the prayer there and make sure of your salvation. Otherwise just pray through the Confession Prayer below.
Confession
Almighty and merciful God,
we have sinned against you,
in thought, word and deed.
We have not loved you with all our heart.
We have not loved others
as our Saviour Christ loves us.
We are truly sorry.
Please bring to my mind now any sin or mistake...
(Pause and apologise and ask forgiveness for any specific sin that comes to mind), if God says you need to atone for giving offense to someone go and do that now.)
Have mercy on me, Adonai, give grace!
In your amazing love for me — wipe out my bad record.
Scrub away my guilt, soak out my sins in your laundry.
I know how bad I’ve been;
my sins are staring me down.
Wash me clean, that I may be fit to seek your face,
that you may hear my prayers
Wash me with the blood of your Son
so that I stand righteous before you
I ask this in Jesus name;
Amen.
