Gospel Reflection

Hear Jesus’ words:

When you pray, pray privately alone,
when you fast, don’t make a show of it,
don’t do it to be seen;
and your Father who sees in secret
will reward you.

Believe what Jesus says,
God is generous; God is good.

Gospel Reading - Jesus Illustrations

39Here are some of the story-illustrations Jesus used in his sermons: “What good is it for one blind man to lead another? He will fall into a ditch and pull the other down with him. 40How can a student know more than his teacher? But if he works hard, he may learn as much.

41“And why quibble about the speck in someone else’s eye — his little faulta — when a board is in your own? 42How can you think of saying to him, ‘Brother, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the board in yours? Hypocrite! First get rid of the board, and then perhaps you can see well enough to deal with his speck!

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
     hallowed be your name,
     your kingdom come,
     your will be done,
          on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
     and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
     now and for ever.
