THE PROLOGUE OF JOHN
In the beginning was the Word:
and the Word was with God;
and the Word was God:
he was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through him:
and without him
was not anything made that was made.
In him was life:
and the life was the light of the human race.
The light shines in the darkness:
and the darkness has never overcome it.
Amen.
Gospel Reading - The beloved disciple
20Peter turned around and saw the disciple Jesus loved following, the one who had leaned around at supper that time to ask Jesus, “Master, which of us will betray you?” 21Peter asked Jesus, “What about him, Lord? What sort of death will he die?”a
22Jesus replied, “If I want him to liveb until I return, what is that to you? You follow me.”
23So the rumor spread among the brotherhood that that disciple wouldn’t die! But that isn’t what Jesus said at all! He only said, “If I want him to live* until I come, what is that to you?”
24I am that disciple! I saw these events and have recorded them here. And we all know that my account of these things is accurate.
25And I suppose that if all the other events in Jesus’ life were written, the whole world could hardly contain the books!
. . . . .John 21:20-25- Implied; literally, “And this man, what?”
- Literally, “tarry.” So also in v. 23.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
