Gospel Reflection

Therefore I will greatly rejoice in the Lord:
my soul shall exult in my God,
for God has robed me with salvation
as a garment:
and clothed me with integrity as a cloak.
For as the earth brings forth its shoots:
and as a garden causes the seeds to spring up,
so the Lord God will cause
righteousness and praise:
to spring forth before all the nations.

Gospel Reading - Witness before rulers

12“But before all this occurs, there will be a time of special persecution, and you will be dragged into synagogues and prisons and before kings and governors for my name’s sake. 13But as a result, the Messiah will be widely known and honored.a 14Therefore, don’t be concerned about how to answer the charges against you, 15for I will give you the right words and such logic that none of your opponents will be able to reply! 16Even those closest to you — your parents, brothers, relatives, and friends will betray you and have you arrested; and some of you will be killed. 17And everyone will hate you because you are mine and are called by my name. 18But not a hair of your head will perish! 19For if you stand firm, you will win your souls.

  1. Literally, “it shall turn out unto you for a testimony.”

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
     hallowed be your name,
     your kingdom come,
     your will be done,
          on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
     and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
     now and for ever.
Amen.
