THE SONG OF TOBIT

1 Blessèd be God who lives for ever:
blessèd be God who rules over all.
2We give thanks to you O Lord before the nations:
for you have scattered us among them.
3There we make your greatness known:
and exalt you in the presence of all the living,
4because you are the Lord our God:
you are our Father for ever.
5 When we turn to you with all our heart and soul:
to do what is true before you,
6then you will turn to us:
and hide your face from us no longer.
7Consider now the deeds
that God has done for you:
and give thanks to God with full voice.
8 Praise the Lord of righteousness:
and exalt the ruler of the ages.

Gospel Reading - The Good Shepherd

thumb

11“I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12A hired man will run when he sees a wolf coming and will leave the sheep, for they aren’t his and he isn’t their shepherd. And so the wolf leaps on them and scatters the flock. 13The hired man runs because he is hired and has no real concern for the sheep.

14“I am the Good Shepherd and know my own sheep, and they know me, 15just as my Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16I have other sheep, too, in another fold. I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice; and there will be one flock with one Shepherd.

17“The Father loves me because I lay down my life that I may have it back again. 18 No one can kill me without my consent — I lay down my life voluntarily. For I have the right and power to lay it down when I want to and also the right and power to take it again. For the Father has given me this right.”

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
     hallowed be your name,
     your kingdom come,
     your will be done,
          on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
     and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
     now and for ever.
Amen.
