Vespers - Dinner Prayer

Dear God,
thank you for all that is good,
for our creation and for our humanity,
for the gifts of life and of one another,
for your love which is unbounded and eternal.
for the food before us,
the family and friends beside us
and the love between us.

Psalm 125

  1. Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion:
which cannot be shaken but stands forever.
  2. As the hills enfold Jerusalem:
so you enfold your people O Lord, now and forever.
  3. The sceptre of the wicked shall not hold sway
over land assigned to the just:
lest the just should put out their hand to do evil.
  4. Do good O Lord to those who are good:
to those who are upright in heart.
  5. As for those who turn aside into crooked ways,
the Lord shall lead them away with evil-doers:
but upon Israel there shall be peace.

Eternal Spirit, living God,
in whom we live and move and have our being,
all that we are, have been, and shall be is known to you,
to the very secret of our hearts
and all that rises to trouble us.
Living flame burn into us,
cleansing wind, blow through us,
fountain of water, well up within us,
that we may love and praise in deed and in truth.
