Prayer
Bless the Lord, whose name is to be praised,
Our Father who art in heaven,
who has given us his laws,
to show us the error of our ways,
Blessed is his son, Christ the Messiah,
who redeemed us from having broken them.
Blessed are you, O Holy Spirit,
who assists us in sinning no more,
and sustains us in the way of the Lord,
grant us wisdom and understanding this day.
Amen.
Old Testament Reading - God glorified by the humble
17My child, perform your tasks with humility;a
then you will be loved by those whom God accepts.
18The greater you are, the more you must humble yourself;
so you will find favour in the sight of the Lord.b
20For great is the might of the Lord;
but by the humble he is glorified.
21Neither seek what is too difficult for you,
nor investigate what is beyond your power.
22Reflect upon what you have been commanded,
for what is hidden is not your concern.
23Do not meddle in matters that are beyond you,
for more than you can understand has been shown to you.
24For their conceit has led many astray,
and wrong opinion has impaired their judgement.
- Heb: Gk meekness
- Other ancient authorities add as verse 19, Many are lofty and renowned, but to the humble he reveals his secrets.
