The Spirit of the Lord

1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me:
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good tidings to the afflicted.
2 The Lord has sent me
to bind up the broken-hearted:
to proclaim liberty for the captives,
and release for those in prison,
3 to comfort all who mourn:
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
4 the oil of gladness instead of mourning:
a garment of splendour for the heavy heart.
5 They shall be called trees of righteousness:
planted for the glory of the Lord.
6 Therefore I will greatly rejoice in the Lord:
my soul shall exult in my God,
7 for God has robed me with salvation
as a garment:
and clothed me with integrity as a cloak.
8 For as the earth brings forth its shoots:
and as a garden causes the seeds to spring up,
9 so the Lord God will cause
righteousness and praise:
to spring forth before all the nations.

New Testament Reading - One in Christ

thumb

13 But now you belong to Christ Jesus, and though you once were far away from God, now you have been brought very near to him because of what Jesus Christ has done for you with his blood.

14 For Christ himself is our way of peace. He has made peace between us Jews and you Gentiles by making us all one family,a 15 By his death he ended the angry resentment between us, caused by the Jewish laws which favoured the Jews and excluded the Gentiles, for he died to annul that whole system of Jewish laws. Then he took the two groups that had been opposed to each other and made them parts of himself; thus he fused us together to become one new person, and at last there was peace. 16 As parts of the same body, our anger against each other has disappeared, for both of us have been reconciled to God. And so the feud ended at last at the cross. 17 And he has brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were very far away from him, and to us Jews who were near. 18 Now all of us, whether Jews or Gentiles, may come to God the Father with the Holy Spirit's help because of what Christ has done for us.

. . . . Ephesians 2:13-18
  1. Literally, "by making us one."

Prayer for the Fallen

At the going down of the sun,
we remember their sacrifice
They endured hell on earth,
giving their lives for King and Country,
to protect the freedom's we all enjoy.
We pray that the strife, battles and wounds of war
be calmed for eternity in God’s loving grace.
May they rest in peace
and know that those left behind cherish their spirit,
honor their commitment,
and will never forget their sacrifice.
Until the last trumpet calls.
Amen.
