Epistle Reflection
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me:
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good tidings to the afflicted.
The Lord has sent me
to bind up the broken-hearted:
to proclaim liberty for the captives,
and release for those in prison,
to comfort all who mourn:
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning:
a garment of splendour for the heavy heart.
New Testament Reading - Our true enemies
10Last of all I want to remind you that your strength must come from the Lord’s mighty power within you. 11Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand safe against all strategies and tricks of Satan. 12For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies — the evil rulers of the unseen world, those mighty satanic beings and great evil princes of darkness who rule this world; and against huge numbers of wicked spirits in the spirit world.
13So use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy whenever he attacks, and when it is all over, you will still be standing up.
. . . Ephesians 6:10-13Intercession
Pray for 3 people on your heart ending with the prayer below.
Remember, O Lord, your compassion and love,
for they are from everlasting.
Lord, have mercy. E te Ariki, kia aroha mai.
Let the sorrowful sighing of the prisoners come before you;
and by your great might,
spare those who are condemned to die.
Christ, have mercy. E te Karaiti, kia aroha mai.
Lord, give strength to your people,
and give us your blessing of peace.
Lord, have mercy. E te Ariki, kia aroha mai.
Amen.
