Gospel Reflection

We cannot serve God and money;
we cannot be slave to two masters.

So we shall enter by the narrow gate.
The gate is wide that leads to perdition,
and many go that way.
But the gate to life is small, the road is narrow,
and those who find it are few.

With us it is impossible, but not for God.
Only God can save us.

Gospel Reading - Jesus restores two demon-possessed men

thumb

28When they arrived on the other side of the lake, in the country of the Gadarenes, two men with demons in them met him. They lived in a cemetery and were so dangerous that no one could go through that area.

29They began screaming at him, “What do you want with us, O Son of God? You have no right to torment us yet.”a

30A herd of pigs was feeding in the distance, 31 so the demons begged, “If you cast us out, send us into that herd of pigs.”

32“All right,” Jesus told them. “Begone.”

And they came out of the men and entered the pigs, and the whole herd rushed over a cliff and drowned in the water below. 33 The herdsmen fled to the nearest city with the story of what had happened.

. . . . .Matthew 8:28-33
  1. Literally, “Have you come here to torment us before the time?”

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
     hallowed be your name,
     your kingdom come,
     your will be done,
          on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
     and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
     now and for ever.
Amen.
