you called Matthew from his place of business
to be an apostle and evangelist;
free us from all greed and selfish love of money
that we may follow in the steps
of Jesus Christ our Redeemer.

Prayer
Our Father,
hallowed be your name
on earth as in heaven.
Almighty and everlasting God,
we thank you that you have brought us safely
to the beginning of this day.
Keep us from falling into sin or running into danger,
and guide us to do always what is right in your eyes;
through Jesus Christ our Saviour.
