Special Prayer

God of the southern sea,
and of these islands,
of Maori, Pakeha
and of all who dwell in our land,
we give you thanks and praise for our country,
and for what we have achieved together.
Strengthen our quest for justice,
help us to shun evil,
and stand together,
for in our unity lies greater strength.
Maori and Pakeha have been joined in blood, sweat and shared grief,
too often to hold hatred in our hearts for each other,
by your grace we have grown up sharing a cultural heritage of which we can be proud,
help us to work together for peace and prosperity,
Do not allow the voices that would divide us to win the day,
help us to love and share the load with each other,
to respect ourselves while appreciating the differences,
in our brothers, for we all have different gifts,
but we all share in the human condition
and we are all equal before you.
