Gospel Reflection

A grain of wheat is a solitary grain
till it falls to the ground and dies.
A grain of wheat is a solitary grain,
but dead it bears a mighty harvest.

Look on Jesus, lifted up,
lifted high to redeem the world.

Gospel Reading - Seeking the lost

thumb

9And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. Better to enter heaven with one eye than to be in hell with two.

10“Beware that you don’t look down upon a single one of these little children. For I tell you that in heaven their angels have constant accessa to my Father. 11And I, the Messiah,b came to save the lost.

12“If a man has a hundred sheep, and one wanders away and is lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others and go out into the hills to search for the lost one? 13And if he finds it, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine others safe at home! 14Just so, it is not my Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.

. . . . .Matthew 18:9-14
  1. Or “do always behold.”
  2. Literally, “the Son of Man.” Verse 11 is left out of many manuscripts, some ancient.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
     hallowed be your name,
     your kingdom come,
     your will be done,
          on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
     and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
     now and for ever.
Amen.
