A PASSOVER HAGGADAH for CHRISTIANS

here
Passover Sedar meal plate

This year, Passover is on Good Friday. If Jesus celebrated it after Sundown on the , this was actually Friday as the Jewish Day starts at sunset. By their rules, you could be doing this on Saturday (after Sunset Friday Night, but lets not get totally legalistic about it.

God ordained this festival, it is one of the major Jewish feasts that he ordered them to keep. In fact, possibly THE MAJOR FEAST for many. It is a remembrance of the Exodus and the deliverance of God's children from Slavery and for Christians, Christ became our Passover lamb delivering us from the Slavery of Sin and Separation from God.

What you will need:-

  1. 3 matzahs per person - This is unleavened bread. They go to extremes and throw out all the yeast in their homes the day before passover. I asked at the local supermarket in my area and they had none not even in the International Section. I have had to make do with wraps (check the ingrediants list to make sure it is yeast free.)
  2. A speacial plate to display the sedar - The special plate you put the Sunday roast on will suffice.
  3. A special piece of linen to wrap the matzah (or wraps) in separate them with paper napkins between.
  4. Wine/Grape Juice - enough that each person get 4 cups. (Grape juice for the kids at least).
  5. Wine Glasses - your best - Jews even use Kosher dishes and glasses that have been immersed in a sacred pool and had a blessing said on them. Because to them eating is a Holy Act especially this feast. But as children of God mindful that we do not have these resources what we do have is Jesus, if you feel you want to go that far, wash the glasses and china and anything you will use in preparation and ask him to bless the water and honour your intent.
  6. Maror (bitter herbs) - Romaine lettuce and/or horseradish.
  7. A Haggadah - Preferable one per person. (Like an order of Service) Download here!
  8. Charoset - this is a mixture you make up containing chopped WALNUTS, APPLES, PEARS and RED WINE, OPTIONAL ADDITIVES - cinnamon, ginger, figs, dates, pomegranates, almonds.
  9. A well roasted SHANK bone - While most Jews no longer use a true lamb shank or eat lamb at passover as God ordered, this is because there is no Temple and the lambs were to be sacrificed in the Temple. But as Christians our bodies are a Temple of the Holy Spirit and of the Messiah therefore in his honour asking his blessing, we are choosing to eat lamb and use a true lamb shank as a representation of the true lamb of God who brought our deliverance.
  10. 1 Hard-boiled Eggs per sedar plate (1 small/medium family.)
  11. Karpas - cooked potato, raw onion, celery, radish or parsley.
  12. Salt Water for Karpas (in a bowl)
  13. 2 candles for each married woman
  14. Matches or somemeans of lighting the candles
  15. Napkins (and lots of them)
  16. Optional suggestion arrange to watch either "The Ten Commandments" OR "Prince of Egypt" Video
