Our Great High Priest
1 In you, Jesus, Son of God,
we have a great high priest:
you have passed through the heavens,
and are seated
at the right hand of God on high.
2 Therefore we hold fast to the faith
that we profess:
for you are not a high priest who is unable
to sympathise with our weaknesses.
3 In every respect you have been tempted
as we are:
and yet you did not sin.
4 Although a Son, you learned obedience
through what you suffered:
and being made perfect,
you have become the source of eternal salvation
for all who obey you.
5 This gives us every confidence:
to draw near to the throne of grace.
6 There we receive mercy:
and find grace to help in time of need.
Gospel Reading - Christ, the Word, in Creation
1Before anything else existed,a there was Christ,b with God. 2 He has alwaysc been alive and is himself God. 3 He created everything there is - nothing exists that he didn't make. 4 Eternal life is in him, and this life gives light to all mankind. 5 His life is the light that shines through the darkness - and the darkness can never extinguish it.
6,7God sent John the Baptist as a witness to the fact that Jesus Christ is the true Light. 8 John himself was not the Light; he was only a witness to identify it. 9 Later on, the one who is the true Light arrived to shine on everyone coming into the world.
10But although he made the world, the world didn't recognize him when he came.
11,12Even in his own land and among his own people, the Jews, he was not accepted. Only a few would welcome and receive him. But to all who received him, he gave the right to become children of God. All they needed to do was to trust him to save them.d 13 All those who believe this are reborn! - not a physical rebirthe resulting from human passion or plan - but from the will of God.
14 And Christ became a human being and lived here on earth among us and was full of loving forgivenessf and truth. And some of us have seen his gloryg - the glory of the only Son of the heavenly Father!h

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
